State of the College - Bethany President Speaks of “Golden Past and Bright Future”
“This outstanding college, with a golden past, is poised for a bright future,” President Scott D. Miller told faculty, staff, students and other members of the Bethany College community February 26 in remarks in his annual State of the College Address.

Bethany College Theatre to Present 'Returns'
The Bethany College Theatre Department has announced the production of Joshua Casteel's "Returns," an autobiographical journey through Casteel's experiences as an interrogator in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison. Five performances of the play are scheduled for April 1, 3, 6 and 8 at 8 p.m. and April 5 at 2 p.m. in Wailes Theatre on the College campus.

Bethany College Wins Gold in Admissions Marketing Awards Competition
The 24th Annual Admissions Advertising Awards, the nation’s largest educational advertising awards competition, recently presented Bethany College with the top Gold Award in the Magazine Advertising/Series category. Additionally, Bethany received a Merit Award as one of seven colleges recognized nationwide in the Student Viewbook category for institutions with enrollments under 2,000 students.

The competition is sponsored by Higher Education Marketing Report. This year, more than two thousand entries were received from more than one-thousand colleges, universities and secondary schools from all fifty states and several foreign countries. Judges included a national panel of admissions’ marketers, advertising creative directors, marketing and advertising professionals and the editorial board of Higher Education Marketing Report.

This is the second year in a row that Bethany has be recognized by receiving the Gold Award.

Bethany’s The Tower Available Online
The Communications Department has announced that The Tower, Bethany’s student newspaper, is now available online at www2.bethanywv.edu/tower. Students, staff, faculty and alumni can access the new edition of The Tower every Friday. The site includes links to individual pages in convenient PDF format for fast downloading—as well as easy access for readers looking for a particular section.

The department thanks Ian Hicks, editor-in-chief of The Tower; Brandon Essington, the Communications Department student webmaster; and the technical support staff for their help in getting The Tower back on the Internet.

Rodkey ’96 Takes on New Role as GSW Assistant Athletic Director
Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) recently promoted Jennifer Rodkey ’96 to Assistant Athletic Director. Rodkey will oversee NCAA rules compliance, including staff compliance education, financial aid, and recruitment and eligibility issues for the athletic department. In addition, she will manage the student-athlete advisory committee.

Rodkey was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director from her previous position as compliance coordinator for the GSW Hurricanes. She has also served as an assistant coach and head coach for the women’s basketball team.

Rodkey earned her bachelor’s degree in English Education from Bethany College and a master’s degree in Education from GSW.

Phi Mu Anniversary Weekend Set For March 6-7
Bethany College’s Beta Nu chapter of the national Phi Mu female fraternity will celebrate its 70th year at Bethany with an Anniversary Weekend on March 6-7, 2009. Phi Mu alumni are being asked to save those dates and make plans to join their sisters for a weekend of celebration that will include a luncheon, auction and house tours. Additional details will be provided in future issues of the Old Main Journal

BASA Weekend Schedule Announced
Calling all alumni soccer players! Please save the date and make plans to join us on campus for the Bethany Alumni Soccer Association weekend, set to begin on Friday, May 1. The weekend will be packed full of activities that include a golf scramble and an alumni soccer tournament. More details will be provided in future issues of the Old Main Journal.

Bethany Men Move on to PAC Title Game with 71-67 Victory
The Bethany men’s basketball team will get a chance to repeat as PAC champions after holding off Westminster for a 71-67 victory in the tournament semifinals Thursday night in a contest that featured 15 ties and 22 lead changes.

Bison Women Take to the Road for PAC Final Four
The Bethany women’s basketball team will travel to Kentucky this weekend to play in the PAC Tournament Final Four, with the Bison in search of their first conference championship since 2004.

Bethany's Beckwith Scores Trio of Awards
Bethany freshman Lance Beckwith (Raleigh, N.C./Word of God Christian Academy) earned a trio of awards for his play last week, including the PAC and ECAC South Region Player of the Week and a spot on the national website D3Hoops.com’s National Team of the Week.

Bethany's Brandenburg Earns Second Honor From D3Hoops.com
For the second time this year, Bethany senior Renee Brandenburg (Avella, Pa.) has been chosen by the national website D3Hoops.com for its national Team of the Week, which selects five nominated players from across all of Division III.
