Valedictorian Randal Stuckwish Receives Oreon E. Scott Award
Valedictorian Randal S. Stuckwish of McDonald, Pa., completed his college career with top honors during Bethany College’s 2010 Commencement ceremony on May 15. Dr. Darin E. Fields, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, presented Stuckwish with the College’s Oreon E. Scott Award, given annually to the senior graduating with the highest academic standing.

Caperton Addresses Bethany College 2010 Graduating Class
Gaston Caperton, former governor of West Virginia and current president of the College Board of New York, spoke to Bethany College's 2010 graduating class as part of the institution's 170th anniversary Commencement Weekend. Caperton presented listeners with a challenge to view all of their experiences — both good and bad — as preparation for success.

President Miller Presents Keys ‘67 with ‘Hands to Haiti’ Funds  
President Scott D. Miller recently presented Dr. Arthur B. Keys Jr. '67, President and CEO of International Relief and Development (IRD), with a donation to help those still struggling in the aftermath of Haiti’s earthquake. The funds were raised by Bethany students as part of the College’s “Hands to Haiti” program, a fundraising partnership with IRD. Keys, a member of Bethany’s Board of Trustees, founded IRD in 1998 to help provide humanitarian relief and development aid to populations in crisis across the globe, and it has since become one of the premier organizations of its kind.

Old Main Journal Switches to Summer Schedule
The Old Main Journal will switch from a weekly to monthly publication schedule for the summer. The next Old Main Journal will be released on June 18 with the second summer issue scheduled for July 16. The Old Main Journal will resume its regular weekly publication on August 20.

Bethany Hosts Summer 2010 Camps
Bethany College has a busy summer schedule with educational, sports, band and retreats planned for most of the summer.

Governor’s Honors Academy
Bethany College will host the 2010 West Virginia Governor’s Honors Academy June 26 – July 18, 2010. On campus for the three-week residential program will be 180 rising high school seniors taking intensive and broad-based classes and participating in a daily seminar session, educational events and interactive activities. This will be the final year of a three-year grant award program funded by the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts for Bethany College.

Basketball Camp
Bethany College’s Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Andrew Sachs, will continue his summer camp director career by offering three basketball camp dates.

Girls High School Team Camp: June 18-20
Boys High School Team Camp: June 25-27
Boys and Girls Individual Development Camp: June 28-July 2
Co-Ed Ages 7-17, Overnight Residential and Commuters

Bethany College will host three major sport camps over the summer.

Pro Soccer Camps and DPSoccer Academy are pleased to announce the Bolton Wanderers International Player ID Camp. Bolton Wanderers Football Club, of the English Premiership, will be running the week-long residential and commuter camp open to players age 8-18. This Elite Player ID Camp running July 18-22 will provide Bolton’s International Academy Staff with the opportunity to access the technical, tactical and overall fitness levels of North American players. Education Dept. Offers Summer Autism Course
The Bethany College Department of Education will offer two 600-level courses in autism as part of an intensive, month-long summer program. The two courses, when combined with an existing certification in behavior disorders or multi-categorical special education, will result in an endorsement in autism. Appropriately licensed persons successfully completing the two courses in autism will be recommended for endorsement by their county system. The two courses will be held at the Bethany College Hurl Education Center June 21-July 16. For more information and for an application, click here.

Attention PSI Beta's - 150th Anniversary Celebration -- Update
The PSI Chapter of the Beta Theta PI Fraternity will be celebrating its 150 year anniversary as a chapter at Bethany College. Events are being planned and will be held on the Bethany College Campus June 18-20, 2010.

The full agenda, along with daily activity alternatives and a listing of housing alternatives, is now available at www.psibeta.net/150. There will be golf on Friday, a cookout on Friday night, a full agenda of activities on Saturday (including activities for spouses/significant others) and a dinner on Saturday evening. Sunday will feature a brunch. Rooms will be available on campus.

Bethany Online Alumni Community
The Office of Alumni & Parent Relations recently launched Bethany Live. The Web-based community will allow you to keep up with alumni news, create a profile, post class notes and photos, participate in discussions via the message board and communicate with your classmates in a very similar manner to that of Facebook.

To log in for the first time, visit www.live.bethanywv.edu. Click on "first-time login" at the top of the page on in the green bar. Enter your name and your constituent ID when prompted and you'll be on your way. The system will walk you through each step to create a profile, upload photos, edit personal information, etc.

Bison Athletics
Bethany Advances in ECAC’s with 7-6 Walk-Off Win
Sophomore catcher T.J. Zarewicz (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) lined a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Bethany College baseball team a 7-6 victory over Penn State-Altoona in the ECAC South Region Tournament quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at Bethany Park.

Carver, Three Bison Top All-PAC Baseball Teams
The All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) baseball teams were released Tuesday and the Bethany College program was well represented with three players earning all-conference recognition and head coach Rick Carver being tabbed as the league’s Coach of the Year.

ECAC Title Slips Away From Bison with Losses to DeSales
DeSales (Pa.) University scored the final six runs of the first game to record a 7-4 win over the Bethany College softball team and then claimed the ECAC South Region Tournament title with a 2-0 victory in the final game over the Bison on the second day of tournament at Bethany.
