Bethany College Partners with Carnegie Mellon University to Create Accelerated Master’s Program
Officials from Bethany College and Carnegie Mellon University’s (CMU) H. John Heinz III College met May 16th to officially sign an Accelerated Master’s Program agreement that creates six new areas of graduate study for Bethany students. The program allows qualified applicants to graduate with both a bachelor’s degree from Bethany and a master’s degree from CMU in 5 years.

PNC Bank – Pittsburgh President Sy Holzer Addresses Bethany College 2012 Graduates
Sy Holzer, president of PNC Bank – Pittsburgh, spoke to Bethany College’s 2012 graduating class as part of the institution’s 172nd Anniversary Commencement Weekend. Holzer delivered his remarks, “Prepared for a Lifetime of Achievement and the Importance of Legacy and Appreciation,” to Bethany’s 135 graduates on May 12 outdoors at the Tilock Amphitheatre in the Pennington Quadrangle.

Valedictorian Meghan Philp Receives Oreon E. Scott Award
Valedictorian Meghan L. Philp of New Martinsville, W.Va., completed her college career with top honors during Bethany College's 2012 Commencement ceremony on May 12. Dr. Darin E. Fields, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, presented Philp with the College's Oreon E. Scott Award, given annually to the senior graduating with the highest academic standing.

Aaron Anslow Named Faculty Athletics Representative
Aaron Anslow, assistant professor of art, has been named Faculty Athletics Representative for Bethany College.  He will represent Bethany at FAR meetings of the PAC, ECAC, and NCAA.

Rev. Dr. William Allen ('62) and Dr. Eugene Miller ('47) were designated as Trustee Emeritus at the Bethany College Board of Trustees meeting on Friday.

Joyce Pollack Jefferson '77, Gayle Connelly Manchin H '07, Bill Strickland H '09, and Rev. Thaddeus Allen '92 were elected to the Bethany College Board of Trustees during its meeting on Friday.

Robert Paysen Designated Professor-Emeritus
Dr. Robert Paysen, The Goulding-Woolery Professor in Chemistry and Chair of the Department of Physical Science, has been designated Professor of Chemistry-Emeritus at Bethany College. The distinction was awarded by the Board of Trustees at its meeting Friday.  He was also recognized with a Board resolution at a luncheon Friday.

Old Main Journal Switches to Summer Schedule
The Old Main Journal will switch from a weekly to monthly publication schedule for the summer. The next Old Main Journal will be released on June 15 with the second summer issue scheduled for July 20. The Old Main Journal will resume its regular weekly publication on August 24.

Robert J. McCann '80, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, has been announced as the gold medal recipient by the American Irish Historical Society for 2012.

Summer OCICU Online Courses Available
Through Bethany College’s partnership with the Online Consortium of Independent Colleges and Universities, affordable online courses during the summer are available for students and alumni thru Bethany College. Each course with OCICU costs just $725 and registration for the course is directly through Bethany College.

Bethany's Gregg Places in Javelin on Day 1 of ECAC Championships
The opening day for the Bethany College men’s and women’s track and field teams at the 2012 ECAC Championships was highlighted by a top-five finish in a throwing event. The meet, which is being held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), will conclude Friday.

Bison Place Three on All-PAC Baseball Teams
Bethany College junior Brad Kubis (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) received Second Team All-PAC honors and sophomore Juls Leto (McKees Rocks, Pa./OLSH) and freshman Ryan Meier (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) earned Honorable Mention status when the all-conference baseball teams were announced Tuesday.

Bethany's Vallone Named Softball All-American
After finishing the best season of her remarkable career so far, Bethany College junior Maria Vallone (Rochester, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) was named First Team All-Central Region earlier this week and Third Team All-American by the NFCA Thursday night at the national championship banquet in Salem, Va.
