Wins Gold Medal in Advertising Competition
Bethany College has been selected as
a Gold Medal Award winner in the 23rd annual Admissions Advertising
Awards. Sponsored by Admissions Marketing Report, the Admissions
Advertising Awards is the largest educational advertising awards
competition in the country. This year’s competition included
2,000 submissions from more than 1,000 colleges, universities
and secondary schools representing all 50 states and several
Bethany received a Gold Medal Award in
the Single Ad segment of the Newspaper Advertising category
for its “Permission to Dream” ad. It was one of
only 245 Gold Medal Awards presented in the competition. The
College’s Admission advertising campaign was created by
BD&E, Inc. of Pittsburgh. Bethany College graduate Jeff
Flick ’82 is a principal owner of BD&E.
Kalon Weekend Held
This past Saturday 65 high school seniors
competed in the Kalon Scholarship Competition. Students from
as far away as New Mexico and Minnesota came to Bethany's snow
covered campus. R. Timothy Stack '75, President and CEO Piedmont
Healthcare was the Keynote speaker at the luncheon. Fifteen
students will be awarded a Kalon Scholarship for their four
years at Bethany.
Something is New at
Bethany's Kid’s Korner!
Students from the Children’s Literature
Class will be presenting their favorite picture books, sing
along songs, poetry, and creative crafts to help children make
memorable connections with literature at the weekly Kid's Korner
story time. Story hour will be held from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
at the T.W. Phillips Memorial Library on the following Saturday
March 1st, 8th, 22nd and 29th
April 12th, 19th, and 26th

Bethany Math Computer
Science Club to Host Competition
The Math Computer Science Club of Bethany
College is once again hosting the Math Science Day Competition.
Scheduled for March 7 at the Mountainside Conference Center,
approximately 75 high school students from across the tri-state
area are expected to attend.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. with registration
and a continental breakfast and will be filled with individual
tests and group activities spanning all science and mathematical
fields. The Office of Admission will host the competitors for
lunch in the cafeteria followed by a tour of campus. The day's
events will conclude with an awards ceremony at 2 p.m.

Phillips, Assistant Professor of Chemistry; and Jeffrey Devlin,
Director of the Mary Cutlip Center for Library and Information
Technology Services attended an Appalachian College Association
workshop in Abingdon, Va. last week.
The workshop entitled “Integrating
Library Resources and the Curriculum,”
focused on incorporating information literacy into courses and
research. The team is developing ideas on ways that faculty
and librarians can, together, enhance the learning experience
in New Film
Academy Award winning actress Frances
McDormand '79 returns to the silver screen early next month
with the release of her latest film, Miss Pettigrew Lives for
a Day. McDormand plays the title role opposite Academy Award
nominee Amy Adams in what has been described by critics as “a
sophisticated and heartfelt comedy.”
McDormand, who earned her B.A. in Theater
from Bethany in 1979, won the Academy Award for Best Actress
in 1996 for her role as chief of police Marge Gunderson in the
movie, Fargo. She has also received three Academy Award nominations
as Best Supporting Actress for her roles in Mississippi Burning
(1988), Almost Famous (2000) and North Country (2005).
Dr. Miller will travel to Florida to meet
alumni and friends of the college. Please save the dates, more

President Miller recently authorized the advertisement of two
positions within the Office of Institutional Advancement. The
job descriptions for the positions Director
of Alumni and Parents Relations and Director
of Church Relations have been posted on the College's website.

Earn Trip to PAC Title Game With 105-98 Win
The Bethany College men’s basketball
team went 12-for-16 from the foul line in the final 2:24 to
fend off a pesky Thomas More team and claim a 105-98 victory
in Thursday’s PAC Tournament semifinal contest.
Knocked Out of PAC Tournament by Grove City 71-68
An eight-point lead slipped away over
the final three minutes, as the third-seeded Bethany College
women’s basketball team was upset by sixth-seeded Grove
City 71-68 at Hummel Field House Tuesday night in a PAC Quarterfinal
