Spring semester begins at Bethany College

BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College began its spring semester Monday with an array of COVID-19 protocols in place.

Students returned to campus over the weekend in staggered groups. All students were asked to submit a negative COVID-19 test result from no earlier than 72 hours before their return. Upon their arrival, students’ temperatures were taken and they received another COVID-19 test.

Face coverings are required on campus, and all students, faculty, and staff must complete a daily health assessment.

The first two weeks of classes will be held online, as students are required to self-isolate in their rooms for 14 days.

Students are permitted to visit the cafeteria for grab-and-go meals, and to walk the campus grounds.

Campus officials also asked students to bring extra snacks, food supplies, and personal items to prevent the need to leave campus.

With the first day of spring classes coinciding with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, the college has planned a four-night celebration and call to action via Zoom. Events include lectures, an online paint party, and a MLK trivia contest.

The Student Activities Council also will host a series of virtual events in the coming weeks.

All campus offices will be open for Zoom meetings and phone calls during the quarantine period. Walk-in service will not be an option, and work study assignments will be on hold for 14 days.
