Sept. 3 - PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A late goal by sophomore Cassie Spalding (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey) wasn’t enough to overcome a two-goal deficit and the Bethany women’s soccer team had their record evened at 1-1 with a 2-1 loss Thursday at LaRoche.

The Redhawks (1-0) grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a goal just two minutes into the match and carried that advantage into halftime. They doubled their margin by scoring another goal with six minutes off the second half clock to put BC down by a pair.

The Bison trimmed the LaRoche lead in half when Spalding registered her second goal in as many games off an assist by junior Lisa Wabrick (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillan), but the hosts, who outshot Bethany 12-10, would hold off the Green and White to put away the win.

In net for the Bison was freshman Brittany Sadler (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold), who made five saves in the setback.

Bethany’s home opener, as well as the start of three consecutive matches at home, comes Saturday when they host Mount Aloysius (Pa.) College at 1 p.m.
