Nov. 17 - CRESSON, Pa. – Behind 59 percent shooting in the second half, the Bethany College men’s basketball erased a one-point halftime deficit and went on to post a 108-96 victory over Mt. Aloysius (Pa.) College in the consolation game of the Mounties’ Tip-Off Tournament.
The Bison (1-1) trailed 43-42 at the break, as they shot just 32 percent (14-44) in the opening 20 minutes, while Mt. Aloysius (0-2) connected on 16-of-37 attempts from the floor (43%). Bethany heated up in the second half, burying 23-of-39 from the field and also hitting 14-of-19 (74 percent) from the free throw line to record the come-from-behind victory.
Bethany was also able to overcome the Mounties’ 46-38 advantage on the glass by forcing 21 Mt. Aloysius turnovers, while committing just nine of their own miscues.
BC had five players score in double digits, including four starters. Junior forward Petre Petkovski (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) led all scorers with a career-high 26 on 11-of-17 shooting. Senior guard Brody Jackson (Akron, Ohio/Mancester) dropped in 17 and handed out six assists, but the stat line of the night went to senior point guard Marcus Adams (Columbus, Ohio/Mount Vernon Academy). He set career highs with 15 points, nine assists and six steals, while also grabbing six rebounds.
Other top players for the Bison included junior guard Tyler Morando (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central) with 11 points, four assists and three steals and freshman guard Dakota Matz (Zanesville, Ohio) with 10 markers, four assists and three steals.
For the Mounties, Richard McNutt had a big game, totaling 24 points and 13 rebounds. Other scorers in double figures included Sam Hanik with 23 and Jimmy Snyder with 13 off the bench.
The Bison will return to action Tuesday night in their home opener. Pitt-Greensburg will come to Hummel Field House for an 8 p.m. tip-off with a Bethany team that defeated them 90-70 last season in Greensburg.
