BISON LACROSSE LOSES HOME FINALE TO SAINT VINCENT

April 21 - BETHANY, W.Va. – Saint Vincent scored seven times in the first quarter, which was too much of a hole for the Bethany College men’s lacrosse team to dig out from, as the Bison lost a 19-3 decision to the Bearcats Saturday.

Bethany (1-11) was hoping to get out to a fast start in their final home game of the season, but SVC (4-8) was staked out to a quick lead with three goals with just under five minutes gone from the first quarter. The Bison got on the board late in the first quarter when sophomore Travis Granich (Huntington, W.Va.) scored off an assist from junior Zach Gordon (Leesburg, Va./Heritage), but it came in the middle of a four-goal outburst from the Bearcats in the final 2:50 of the initial quarter to give the visitors a 7-1 lead.

Saint Vincent would tally the only two goals of the second quarter to take a 9-1 halftime lead and pushed their advantage to 11-1 early in the third period. Bethany freshman Trey Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) picked up the team’s second goal of the game and his team-leading 12th during the third quarter when he had an unassisted score.

The final Bison score of the game came late in the fourth when Granich scored his second of the afternoon off an assist from junior Christian Simon (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview). Bethany totaled 23 shots in the game, with eight coming from Gordon. On the ground ball front, sophomore Corey Doneski (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) scooped a team-leading five and Moore tied sophomore Dylan Radwanski (Toronto, Ohio) with four apiece.

In goal, sophomore C.J. Studnicky (Severna Park, Md.) stood against 54 shots and made 21 stops in the loss.

Bethany will complete their season next Saturday with a road game at Otterbein at 3 p.m.
