Junkin Scores Two Goals As Women’s Soccer Defeats Chatham For First Conference Win

Oct. 19- PITTSURGH, Pa.- Junior McKenna Junkin (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) scored two goals as the Bethany College women’s soccer team defeated Chatham University, 2-0, in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field. 

Freshman Cheyann McQuain (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) earned her third victory of the season, as she made five saves for her second shutout of the season.

Bethany outshot Chatham 14-8 on the afternoon.

The Bison outshot the Cougars 6-5 in the first half but couldn’t manage to get one past Liz Sawyer as the game was scoreless at the halftime break.

Junkin broke the scoreless tie with her first goal of the afternoon to give the Bison a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute.

Ten minutes later, Junkin gave the Bison a two goal advantage as she fired the ball into the lower left corner of the net.

The Bison had a decisive 8-3 shot advantage in the second half, as Bethany would go on for the 2-0 victory.

Bethany returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Thiel at 3:30 p.m. at Hoag Field.
