BETHANY, W.Va. — Bethany College is excited to announce Margie McCartney as the first spotlight of our new Alumni Spotlight Series. Margie is a Class of 1983 graduate, and the Social Chairman for Zeta Tau Alpha.

Margie grew up in Pelham Manor, N.Y., and found out about Bethany College from the late, great, Tim “Fletch” Henningsen (Beta ’83). Her dad sold coal and was often in Pittsburgh on business, so she flew down to meet him and they visited the campus together. It was gorgeous, had a great vibe, the people were all friendly and nice and they had a great communications department, which was her major. Autumn is Margie’s favorite time of year at Bethany because it looks like God took a box of fruit loops and sprinkled it all over the W.Va. panhandle.

She has always been in the hospitality industry in one capacity or another. After graduating, she worked for six years in N.Y.C. in advertising and sales. After serving as a tour guide in Russia in 1989, she decided to make a change and moved to Chicago to work as the corporate sales manager at the Knickerbocker Hotel off Michigan Ave. Small and intimate, it was the perfect setting to break into the hospitality scene in the Windy City. Over the years, Margie was honored with awards from several industry associations. Most recently, she received The Hall of Fame Award from Meeting Professionals International, Chicago Area Chapter.

When COVID-19 hit in 2020, two things happened- she lost her job after 15 years with the same Destination Management Company, and the Global Scavenger Hunt she had planned to participate in with her old boss and friend Kathleen, was canceled. With encouragement, Margie decided to write a book called, “And Then…” available on Amazon and mccartneypartners.com.
