Planned Giving Evening with Shawn Rohrig ’09 & Ryan Rokisky ’11

December 6, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us via Zoom at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 6, with Shawn Rohrig ’09 and Ryan Rokisky ’11 for a conversation on “Planned Giving – What to Consider When You Want to Leave a Lasting Legacy in the Advancement of Bethany College.”

Planned giving offers our alumni a unique way to leave a lasting legacy while enjoying potential tax benefits, ensuring that your support of Bethany College continues even beyond your lifetime. In addition to a simple bequest in a typical will, we will discuss other popular avenues for planned giving such as trusts, distributions from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA), and life insurance beneficiary designations.

Rohrig is a lifelong resident of Wheeling and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in financial economics from Bethany College. He was one of the founding students of the McCann Family Investment Club, which teaches students how to properly invest real money for the College. As a member, he analyzed and chose stocks for the energy sector of the overall portfolio. He began his career in the securities industry in 2009 as a registered representative with First Investors in Canonsburg, Pa. In Jan. 2010, he joined the Scheeren Wealth Management Group at Wells Fargo Advisors in Wheeling. There, Shawn became a financial consultant, and he was able to further develop his skills in managing money, prospecting, and advising high-net-worth clientele. In April 2011, Shawn joined Hazlett, Burt & Watson, Inc. as a financial advisor and became a CFP® in 2018. During his tenure at Hazlett, he refined his trade and developed his personalized approach to wealth management. In July of 2021, Shawn joined LPL Financial and began his firm Rohrig Financial.

Rokisky, a Weirton native, is a 2011 graduate of Bethany College with a bachelor’s in political science and a 2013 graduate of the Ohio Northern Claude W. Pettit School of Law, joining the firm of Rokisky and Associates in 2013. He later became a Partner in Rokisky, Wilharm, Blair & Rokisky in 2016, now Rokisky, McCune, Wilharm & Blair. Mr. Rokisky focuses much of his practice on nursing home crisis planning. Mr. Rokisky also handles complex estate planning cases wherein clients seek to utilize available strategies to protect and maximize assets from the costs of long-term care. His experience makes him invaluable to families who suddenly find themselves in a crisis situation and need to quickly know how to proceed.
