BETHANY, W.Va. – Ten Bethany College students are recipients of the Disciples Appalachian Scholarship, a ministry of the Disciples Home Ministries.

  • Marci Mazza Fredley, Pittsburgh, Pa.
  • Madison Dressel, Connellsville, Pa.
  • Alexia Valenzuela, of Eight Four, Pa.
  • Daniel Blum, of Wheeling, W.Va.

Each student receives $3,000 toward tuition at Bethany College. To be eligible, the students must be members of a Disciples of Christ congregation, must reside in an Appalachian county, and belong to a cohort that will help them advance their leadership skills and think deeply about Appalachia.

Bethany College has a longstanding history with the Christian Church. Alexander Campbell, one of the principal founders of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), founded Bethany College in 1840 and was its first president.
