BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College is transitioning its annual Honors Day recognition onto the college’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts.
Beginning at 11 a.m. April 14, the college will announce student achievements across Bethany’s academic departments. Social media postings will be made at 11 a.m. weekdays through April 23.
Then at 11 a.m. April 24, the Honors Day recognition will culminate with President Tamara Nichols Rodenberg announcing on video the recipients of the college’s most distinguished student awards: The Francis O. Carfer Prize; The John R. Taylor Memorial Award in Liberal Arts; Bethany 2000 Prize; The Pittsburgh Bethany College Club Award; and The W.F. Kennedy Prize.
These awards honor juniors and seniors for outstanding scholarship, leadership, and character.
“The committee felt that it was important to continue with the tradition of Honors Day,” said Heather Ricciuti, director of the T.W. Phillips Memorial Library and chair of the Honors Committee. “The Bethany College community is stronger than distance and we value the opportunity to come together to celebrate the accomplishments of our students.”
The student awards are typically announced in a formal ceremony in Commencement Hall, however Bethany has transitioned to remote instruction throughout the spring semester in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
April 24 also marks the final day of classes for graduating seniors who are taking comprehensive exams.
The Honors Day committee also is made up of Rick Clancy, professor of communications and media arts; Registrar Lisa Cucarese; Sam Goodge, executive director of student affairs; Dr. John Hull, professor of psychology; and Dr. Jessie Janeshek, assistant professor of English.
