BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College Theatre program will present Derek Webb’s dark comedy, Calling Time. Directed by Luke Hardt, Associate Professor of Theatre and Director of the Bethany College Theatre, evening performances begin at 8 p.m. on April 6-8, along with a 2 p.m. matinee on April 9 in Wailes Theatre.

Calling Time is a collective title for five short plays set in a British Pub. In the first, Who’s Joe, a man with an accent (Kerry Kerr of Atlanta, Georgia) disrupts a businessman’s (Mike Lyons of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania) quiet evening, hinting at some upheaval about to take place.

Meanwhile, in What’s Yours, Paul (Elias Stebbins of Washington, Pennsylvania), a recent parolee, is awaiting the arrival of his online date, Emma (Toshia Rush of Alum Bank, Pennsylvania), who has more to hide than Paul but does not.

Then, in Mr. Critchley, Isn’t It, a Member of Parliament (Max Hardt of Bethany, West Virginia) sits through an interview with a reporter who quickly steers the meeting toward blackmail. As closing time approaches in I Know What You’re Thinking, a mysterious man named Tim (Lucas Liriano of Frederick, Maryland) begins reading the thoughts of Rebecca (Jess Donato of Butler, Pennsylvania) and then she begins to read his. Rounding out the cast are two ever-present patrons of the pub, Gladys (Kirstin Smith of Martins Ferry, Ohio) and the blind Mabel (Katie Campbell of Emmitsburg, Maryland) and her dog.

“Not only is this a fun hour of theatre for the actors and the audience, it’s been an added pleasure to frequently consult with the playwright,” Hardt said. “For example, I emailed the playwright about there being no name for the pub. He sent me a list of 25 real names, and we chose ‘The Nobody Inn’.”

Assisting with the production are Assistant Director, Jordan Moore (Eighty-Four, Pennsylvania), and Stage Manager/Understudy, Serenity Brown (Bloomingburg, New York).

Admission for the performances is free, but donations are encouraged.
