Bethany Re-introduces B.I.S.O.N. Program, Aims for Alumni Engagement with Prospective Students
BETHANY, W.Va. – The B.I.S.O.N. Program (formerly known as the B.I.S.O.N.S. – Bethanians in support of new students) has been resurrected and is looking for volunteers! Bethany College is encouraging alumni to get involved today.
One objective of Bethany’s Strategic Plan, ‘Build for a Lifetime,’ is for the college to create transformational experiences, both on and off campus, that focus on transitioning to college, academic success, campus engagement, career development, and alumni involvement. This includes increased interaction formally and informally between alumni and students. Through the B.I.S.O.N. Program, Bethanians can help the college fulfil this goal.
“Nothing is more important to a college than the admission of bright, motivated students. Experience teaches us that alumni can be our greatest asset in finding and recruiting these students.” the late Robert A. Sandercox ‘54, an esteemed Bethany College Alumnus.
The goal of the B.I.S.O.N. Program is to help maintain the strength of the college and quality of its education, make Bethany more widely known, provide guidance to prospective students, and supply the enrollment office with information on these students.
Bethany alumni looking to get involved will take a brief training course to help them engage in this critical mission. After learning about the status of the college and the requirements of the admissions process, alumni will be asked to contact prospective students, take part in local college fairs, help sponsor receptions, congratulate accepted students, seek talented students who may not know of Bethany, and establish a relationship with high schools in their area.
“The B.I.S.O.N. Program is a fantastic way to engage alumni with potential students – both in person and digitally,” says Enrollment Systems and Operations Manager Justin Miller ‘10. “As an alum myself, I see these experiences as a way to not only bolster the recruitment process, but create a bond for the entire Bethany experience. As we continue to ‘Build for a Lifetime,’ the B.I.S.O.N. Program revives a unique opportunity for Alumni Engagement and the Center for Enrollment to work together in recruiting for future generations of Bethanians.”
