BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College’s Faculty Friday series was launched in an effort to connect current and prospective students, staff, and alumni with our distinguished faculty members, who are actively involved in the betterment of our students and institution, both inside and outside of the classroom.
We would like to introduce our second spotlight- Associate Provost of Academic Affairs and Chair and Program Director of the Department of Social Work, Melanee Sinclair! To get to know Sinclair better, read her Q&A below:
Q: What additional positions or involvement do you have at Bethany or outside of Bethany?
A: I am a licensed social worker in the state of W.Va. I am also a certified Mental Health Specialist through the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association and the founder of Team Moochie, an advocacy program focused on working equines.
Q: What is your educational background?
A: BA-West Virginia Wesleyan College & MSW-West Virginia University
Q: Why should prospective students pursue a degree in social work?
A: Social work is a very rewarding profession. We help people, often when they need help the most. Students should pursue social work if they want to help people find solutions to problems. Social work is very versatile.
Q: Everyone has a reason for doing what they love. Many times, this is referred to as your “why”- some people say their “why” was a calling from childhood, others say their “why” is for fulfilling a greater life purpose. What is your “why” for being a part of Bethany College’s faculty?
A: When I was 13 years old, I attended a presentation by a social worker. She talked about her job as a Child Protective Service worker and from that day on, I knew social work was my calling. I worked as a social worker for 20 years before coming to Bethany.
Q: If you had only one word to represent Bethany College and what the College means to you, what would that one word be?
