BETHANY, W.Va. – A 2021 Bethany College Presidential Scholarship recipient recently won a silver medal at the national SkillsUSA Championships.

Sidney Felouzis, of Weirton, W.Va., competed in the job interview category, representing Brooke High School.

The SkillsUSA Championships is a competition for students enrolled in middle school, high school, and community colleges or postsecondary programs.

Felouzis finished first in the West Virginia state competition earlier this year to qualify for the national championships.

She served as chaplain of the Brooke High School chapter, which received a Model of Excellence Award from SkillsUSA in the workplace skills category. Brooke was among only 24 recipients nationwide in 2021.

Felouzis will be part of the freshman class at Bethany this fall. She plans to major in international business with a minor in music. She will be part of the Bethany band and the Kalon Leader Program.

She is one of more than 3,700 SkillsUSA students who qualified to compete at the national level in 102 official contests and five demonstrations.

SkillsUSA, a nonprofit partnership of education and industry founded in 1965, is designed to help students develop necessary personal, workplace, and technical skills.

SkillsUSA has more than 372,000 annual members nationwide in high schools, middle schools and colleges, covering over 130 trade, technical and skilled service occupations. The organization is recognized by the U.S. Departments of Education and Labor as integral to career and technical education.
