BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College has hired Liz Short as the college’s director of philanthropic gifts.

Short comes to Bethany from the Center for Growing Talent in Newark, Del., where she served as fund-raising manager.

“I’m thrilled to have Liz join our team,” said Lori Weaver, vice president of institutional advancement. “She brings passion and drive for enhancing the student experience and excitement to engage with our alumni. I encourage our alumni to reach out and welcome Liz to Bethany.”

Short has spent her entire career either working with college students or working to support them in advancement roles; working as a discovery officer in the Office of Advancement at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J.; assistant director of regional alumni programs at the University of Delaware; and as residence hall coordinator and hall director at University of Delaware and Georgia Southern University.

“As a first-generation college student, I believe that college is a transformational experience that any student with the aptitude and desire should have the opportunity to experience, regardless of socioeconomic status,” Short said. “I’m thrilled to bring my experience and passion to Bethany.”

Short has a master’s degree in counseling in higher education from the University of Delaware and a bachelor’s degree in counseling in public relations from West Virginia Wesleyan.
