BETHANY, W.Va. (Sept. 2, 2026) — Bethany College is proud to celebrate Aliaksandra “Sasha” Savetava ’26 on her acceptance into the doctorate program in economics at West Virginia University, where she has also been awarded full funding to complete her doctoral studies.
A mathematics major with an economics minor from Mogilev, Belarus, Savetava graduated from Bethany in May 2026 after distinguishing herself as both a scholar and campus leader. During her time at Bethany, she served as a resident assistant, worked at The Hub, and tutored fellow students in mathematics and statistics through the Student Success Center.
Originally choosing Bethany for its basketball program, Savetava discovered an academic community that inspired her to pursue new opportunities.
“The connections I made on campus in the math and economics departments were why I decided to continue studying at Bethany,” she said.
Throughout her college career, Savetava credits the encouragement of her family, friends, and Bethany faculty for helping her succeed, particularly Associate Professor of Economics Dr. Aaron Honsowetz, Professor of Mathematics Dr. Adam Fletcher, and Professor Emeritus of Economics Dr. Wilfrid Csaplar Jr.
“It was easy to ask for help, and I always felt supported whenever I needed assistance or had questions in class,” Savetava said.
Her acceptance into West Virginia University’s doctoral program reflects the dedication, perseverance, and academic excellence she demonstrated throughout her time at Bethany. With full funding to pursue her Ph.D., Savetava will continue exploring research in economics while applying her strong quantitative background and passion for mathematical modeling to the study of risk.
Bethany College congratulates Savetava on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to seeing the impact she will make in the field of economics.
