BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College president Dr. Tamara Nichols Rodenberg recently announced a $1 million challenge gift from Robert J. McCann (Class of ’80) and Cindy McCann of Madison, New Jersey.
This challenge gift hopes to attract other forward thinking donors to raise an additional $1 million. The $2 million infusion will provide funding for technology upgrades, personnel, and modern processes to energize the college’s student enrollment and institutional advancement efforts.
“Bob and Cindy McCann’s dedication to Bethany is exceptional,” said Rodenberg. “This most recent gift entrusts us with the resources needed to develop and shape the future of Bethany College and will have an immediate and lasting impact on the entire campus – students, faculty and the Bethany community.”
Bob McCann graduated from Bethany in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and went on to earn an MBA from the Neeley School at Texas Christian University. He currently serves as vice chairman for the Bethany College Board of Trustees and is the Chairman of UBS Americas.
“I am immensely proud of Bethany’s 175-year tradition of excellence and I believe the college’s best days are still ahead,” said McCann. “This gift reflects not only my commitment to fostering educational opportunity, but my confidence in the future of Bethany College and Dr. Rodenberg’s leadership.”
In 2009, the McCanns established the McCann Family Student Investment Fund with a $1 million gift that made it possible for Bethany students to gain real life experience by serving as investment professionals. The fund is administered by students who are responsible for researching stocks, making investment decisions, and executing trades. Since the establishment of the fund, the students have significantly increased the value of the initial portfolio.
