BETHANY, W.Va. – Six Bethany College students have been named 2025 Daffodil Scholarship recipients, each receiving $500 to support transportation costs during summer internships or employment in their chosen fields. The announcement was made during the annual Alumni & Student Daffodil Dinner, held in April.

2025 Daffodil Scholarship recipients:

Jordan Palmer, junior biology major, will intern in animal care at Oglebay Zoo.

Deena Rosenthal, senior psychology (pre-occupational therapy) major, will work as a caregiver and complete shadowing hours with occupational therapists.

Ezekial Rodas, senior computer science major, will intern in IT at Oglebay Resort.

Madison Buxton, senior political science major, will intern with Zimaro Law Firm.

Brooke Markland, senior sports management major, will serve as a summer camp counselor at Carlow University.

Brooke Fuleki, senior business management major, will work as a management trainee at Enterprise.

Established to support students with housing and transportation costs during summer experiential learning opportunities, the Daffodil Project has raised nearly $17,000 to date. The initiative is entirely self-supporting and has assisted more than two dozen students since its inception.

All recipients are in good academic standing with GPAs of 2.5 or higher and have secured internships or jobs lasting a minimum of six weeks or 120 hours. Eligibility also required registration for Fall 2025 and participation in the D.A.F.F.O.D.I.L. (Developing Ambitious Futures, Fostering Opportunities, Dreams, Inspiration & Leadership) group, which includes volunteer work planting daffodils and promoting the scholarship program.

The keynote address at the Daffodil Dinner was delivered by Judge Joseph E. Barki III, a 1996 Bethany graduate who earned degrees in political science and psychology. During his time at Bethany, Judge Barki was a Kalon Scholar, Student Court Justice, and a football player. Now serving as a First Judicial Circuit Judge, he spoke on the evening’s theme, “From Bethany to the Bench,” inspiring a packed room with reflections on his journey from Bethany to a distinguished legal career that has included roles as a prosecutor and special assistant U.S. attorney.
