With social distancing and COVID-19 altering the student experience, the college has introduced Bethany Voices. A group of students of varying backgrounds will share their thoughts over the next few weeks about remote learning, COVID-19, and how they are staying focused and connected in a new world.

By DANI WILLIAMS

I did not know that my freshman year of college would be finished at home with online learning due to COVID-19. However, I adapted quicker than I thought I would.

Bethany Voices Dani WilliamsI am more of a hands-on learner, so working behind a computer has not been the easiest for me.

My professors, though, have all been amazing. They have all been working extremely hard to help and support us during this time.

Aside from normal Zoom lectures, my professors hold virtual office hours as well as other study sessions to help as much as they can. Being so reachable has really allowed me to keep up in my studies.

Going to college required me to figure out a new routine that allowed me to balance school, sports, and a social life.

Just as I was getting used to that new normal, a global pandemic occurred. As I spent my first few weeks at home, I began figuring out a routine that would work for me.

I found that waking up around 8 a.m. every day and beginning my school work allowed me to be really productive in the mornings. So most days, I complete my class work and attend Zoom lectures from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. while taking some little breaks in between.

After 3 p.m., I spend my day outside getting some fresh air. I normally go on a run or take a walk for a few hours before eating dinner.

I miss Bethany a lot, and am very sad to miss some things this spring.

I really missed running with my track team this spring. I continue to train at home, but it is not the same without teammates.

I also really miss hanging out with my best friends. I definitely have kept in touch with all of my friends, though. We FaceTime a lot and send mail.

I am so eager and ready to head back to Bethany in the fall!
