BETHANY, W.Va. — Bethany College will hold a Grand Opening for its Early Discoveries Childcare Center at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4. The facility is located on the first floor of the newly-renovated Judith R. Hurl Education Center, which also serves as home to the College’s Education Department. The new Childcare Center will be able to accommodate children aged 6 weeks to 6 years.
“We are thrilled to have a childcare facility housed in the Judith R. Hurl Education Center,” said Dr. Keely Camden, Chair of the Education Department and Associate Professor of Education at Bethany. “In addition to providing a valuable community service, the childcare facility also provides our pre-service teachers with an opportunity for observation and experience in working with young children.”
Bethany College alumnae Shannon Warren is Childcare Director for the Center. A 1990 graduate of Wheeling Park High School, Warren put her academic goals on hold for more than a decade as she started raising her family. She resumed her studies at the collegiate level in 2003, when her youngest child entered kindergarten, and went on to graduate summa cum laude with a degree in Religious Studies from Bethany College in 2007. Warren has completed extensive training in the areas of childcare, child development, health and state regulations and is a licensed childcare provider in the state of West Virginia.
“Our Education Program and clubs have also partnered with Shannon in planning for joint community educational outreach opportunities and parent workshops,” Camden said.
The Childcare Center will operate Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Rates vary based on a number of factors, including the age of the child. Discounts are available for multiple children from the same family and for Bethany College employees and students. For information please contact Shannon Warren at 304-829-7012 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
