The course will be led by Dr. Cletus Hull, pastor of Trinity United Christian Church. Participants will take part in live Zoom sessions and online learning for about 40 hours over five weeks. The course provides foundational knowledge and practical experience in pastoral care, helping students connect theological reflection with ministry practice.
“Through the Introduction to Pastoral Care certificate students will interact with each other on the topic of caring for others in various ministry settings,” Hull said. “They will explore how to integrate scripture, theology, and human experience in providing spiritual support. I am excited to engage in theological reflection with both clergy and laity alike, as we grow together in the vital practice of pastoral care.”
Dr. Danny B. Moore, vice president for academic affairs, said the course builds on Bethany’s long relationship with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and offers practical training for today’s ministry leaders.
“For generations, Bethany has helped students connect faith with action,” Moore said. “Through Bethany Online, we’re carrying that mission forward by providing new ways for those called to ministry to learn, grow, and serve their communities.”
Participants will:
- Develop a personal pastoral theology grounded in lived experience.
- Practice deep listening and pastoral guidance in diverse ministry contexts.
- Apply sacramental practices such as prayer, anointing, communion, and baptism.
- Integrate theology, ministry, and spirituality through reflection and discussion.
- Build confidence and clarity in real-world ministry situations.
Open to pastors, chaplains, lay leaders, and those discerning a call to ministry, this five-week course costs $500 per participant and is limited to 30 participants to ensure active engagement. Early registration is encouraged!
