Oct. 21 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced that junior linebacker Donavan Hayden (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) and sophomore volleyball standout, Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio /West Muskingum) have been named the Bison SAAC Athletes of the Week.
Hayden had a big game for the Bison after missing one game due to an injury. Hayden totaled a career-best 17 tackles. He also posted a career-best 4.0 tackles for loss against the conference's top rushing attack. On the season, Hayden ranks third in the league in tackles for loss (11.5) and eighth in total tackles (53).
McKenzie notched double-digit kills in all three of her matches against conference opponents for the Bison, who went 2-1 in PAC play. McKenzie posted a game-high 19 kills in a five-set match with Geneva College. She also combined for 21 kills and just nine errors in the Bison's three-game sweeps of Washington & Jefferson and Thiel. McKenzie is having a nice season, ranking second in the conference in total kills (292) and 10th in hitting percentage (.234).
Others considered for the award on the women’s side included senior cross country athlete Jessica Olson (Moon, Pa./Moon), sophomore field hockey forward Latisha Cuffee (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run) and soccer standout, sophomore Julie Slezak (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe). Other men were junior punter Stephen Amic (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) and freshman soccer athlete, William Noble (Pittsburgh, Pa./Springdale).
