Oct. 10 - BETHANY, W. Va. - The Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has named senior Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) and junior Chase Kinemond (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside) as the SAAC Athletes of the Month for September.
McKenzie has led the Bison to a 14-11 (9-2, PAC) record so far in 2016. She has tallied double-digit kills in 17 of 25 matches to lead the team with 292 kills. Dylana became Bethany’s new all-time leader in kills in The Green and White’s eight game of the season, breaking the record with her 1,290th kill. She tallied 21 kills in the match against Case Western, marking her season-high.
McKenzie currently ranks second in the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) in total kills and fourth in kills per set (3.24). She also boasts a hitting percentage of .257, which is good for seventh in the conference.
Kinemond is in his first year as the signal caller for the Bison and has already had some notable performances under his belt.
In his first collegiate start against Ursinus, he completed 21 of 37 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown. Two weeks later at Thiel, Kinemond had a career day throwing for 417 yards and three touchdowns on 39 completions. He also rushed for 94 yards and three more scores. His 39 completions and 511 offensive yards set new Bethany single-game marks.
Other candidates up for nomination for the women were volleyball’s Allie Powell (Indianapolis, Ind. /Lawrence Central) and Kathrin Lehnert (Crailsheim, Germany / Lise-Meitner Gymnasium) of cross country. For the men, Raekwon Wright (Baltimore, Md./Patterson) from football, Jack Waters (Epsom, United Kingdom/Glyn School) from soccer, and Jordan Castro (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Leilehua) from cross country were also nominated.
