Freshman women's soccer player, Julie Slezak (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrober), and sophomore football wideout, Eric Blinn (Beaver, Pa./Western Beaver), have been tabbed as the Bethany College Student Athlete Advisory Committee's Players of the Week.
Selzak was honored with the first SAAC Women's Athlete of the Week award following a stellar performance against Penn State Beaver. The freshman tallied three first-half goals in just the first nine minutes of play, in a 15-0 route of PSU-B, including notching her first just 47 seconds into the game.
She followed that goal with a second at the 4:46 mark, taking a ball from a PSU-B defender and beating the goalie. She then finished off the hat-trick with just 9:29 gone in the first half.
Slezak currently ranks second on the team in goals (5) and total points (12).
Blinn was tabbed as the initial SACC Men's Athlete of the Week after serving as the catalyst for the
Bison offense in a 34-31 victory at Homecoming over Grove City. The sophomore wideout hauled in 10 catches, eight in the second half, and totaled 163 yards. His long catch of the game (60 yards) got the fans out of their seats with a great catch-and-run that set up Bethany for their final score of the game.
Blinn currently leads all players in Division III in both catches (46) and receiving yards (613). His 221.5 all-purpose yards per game currently ranks third in the country.
This is the first week for the SAAC Athlete of the Week Awards. A new men's and women's winner will be picked each week and will be announced on Tuesdays.
