May 9 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Men’s track and field athlete, sophomore Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) and women’s track and field athlete, senior Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) have been named the Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s Athletes of the Month for April, announced the Bethany SAAC on Friday.
Moore, who was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for March 24, has displayed his ability for the Bison track & field team over the course of the season. In both the triple and long jump events combined, Moore notched nine top-three finishes, with three first place finishes coming in the triple jump. At the PAC Outdoor Championships, Moore was fantastic, winning the long jump with a leap of 23’2 ¾” and finishing third in the triple jump (45’ 3 ½”). With his success in the triple and long jump events, he has also qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships held on May 15-16. In addition to the individual success, Moore was also part of the 4x100 meter relay team that set a new Bison record with a time of 42.63.
This past indoor season was special for Moore, as he finished in the top-three in the triple jump five times, including a record-setting performance at the PAC Indoor Championships. He capped his season off by placing 14th at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in the triple jump with a leap of 45’ 1 ½”.
Prato just plain dominated sprint competitions (100 & 200 meter dash) last month, racking up nine top-five finishes. In addition to her individual success, she also anchors the 4x100 meter relay team, which has registered four top-five finishes. Her season’s best performance came at the PAC Championships, where she took over, breaking school records in both the 100 (12.45) and 200 (25.59), while also being a member of the winning 4x100 meter relay team (49.84). Her success in both the 100 and 200 has also qualified her for the ECAC Championships on May 15-16.
Prato finished the indoor season by capturing the PAC Championship in the 60 meter dash by running a record-setting time of 8.01.
Other nominees for the men included tennis athletes, senior James Peterson (Colorado Springs, Colorado/Cheyenne Mountain) and juniors Jared Roque (Munster, Ind./Munster) and Dylan Schooley (Washington, Pa./Trinity), as well as baseball players, freshman Chris Koegel (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and junior Dan Petrella (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour). Other women included softball players, senior Ashlee Needy (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and junior Kelsey Bish (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield).
