Peter B. (Pete) Cassel
Class of 1970
Pete Cassel was on the Bethany College swim team during the 1966-67 season and was one of four Bethany swimmers to win the national championship in the 400-yard freestyle relay. He also earned All-American honors in two individual events: the 100-yard and 50-yard freestyle. At the time of his graduation, his time of 22.4 seconds in the 50 set a school record.
In 1967, Cassel was involved in an automobile accident. After long rehabilitation, Cassel continued his education at the University of Arizona, where he received his B.A. in Sociology and Psychology in 1975. He then went on to earn his Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Arizona in 1979.
Cassel and his wife, Elaine, live in Grand Island, N.Y., where he has worked for rehabilitation clinics since 1979. In 1984, he was named Arizona Rehabilitation Counselor of the Year. He is associated with the Robert Warner Rehabilitation Center, counseling adolescents with severe disabilities.
