April 3 - BETHANY, W.Va. – Thomas More scored four runs in the second and fourth innings to take control and go on to a 16-2 victory over the Bethany College baseball team Tuesday afternoon in the third and final game of their PAC series.

The victory gave the Saints (14-6, 6-3) a three-game sweep over the Bison, who fell to 7-12 and 4-8 in the PAC.

Bethany went ahead in the first inning when junior LF Alex Evans (Washington, Pa.) drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a ground out and scored on a two-out RBI single by junior SS Brad Kubis (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell). Bison defensive lapses proved very costly in the second, as four BC miscues led to four Thomas More runs. The Saints then struck four more times in the fourth frame to build an 8-1 lead.

The Bison put one on the board in the sixth inning on an RBI fielder’s choice by freshman CF Ethan Tobin (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local). However, the Saints completed the win by plating six runs in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth.

Bethany was limited to four hits in the game, with three coming from Kubis. Sophomore 2B Dominic Contruguerra (Richmond, Ohio/Edison) managed the other single for the Green and White. Taking the loss on the mound was junior starter Ryan Styche (Buena Vista, Pa./Elizabeth Forward), who threw the first two innings and allowed four runs, but only two were earned.

Next up for the Bison is a weekend series with local rival Washington & Jefferson. The Presidents will come to Bethany Park Friday for a single nine-inning game at 4 p.m. The series will conclude Saturday with a twinbill in Washington at 1 p.m.
