BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College will offer a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning degree beginning in the Fall 2021 semester.

“We are very excited about our new cohort in the M.Ed. program,” said Dr. Joe Lane, provost and dean of faculty. “Bethany offers a unique opportunity for students aspiring to careers in education and we expect that the mix of courses and experiences on our campus will prepare them for professional success.”

The full-time program will teach higher education from theoretical and practical perspectives. The curriculum is designed to offer best practices for teaching and learning, provide hands-on experiences working with students, and leadership preparation.

The M.Ed. is a blend of online and on-campus instruction using an eight-week course model. The program is expected to take two years to complete for graduate interns and those with full-time employment.

“I am pleased that Bethany College listened to the past cohort of graduate students and made some improvements to its Master of Education degree, which include consistent scheduling of courses and more focus on higher education topics,” said Dr. Charline Barnes Rowland, chair of the Education Department. “We want student success for our Master’s students too.”

The M.Ed. is not a teacher certification program; however, students can take additional courses and Praxis tests toward state certification in elementary education (K-6), multicategorical special education, physical education (K-12), or secondary education (7-12)

To be eligible, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, and submit a completed application, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. A nonrefundable application fee is $30. Click here to apply.

The Master of Education in Teaching and Learning will replace the Master of Arts in Teaching previously offered at Bethany.
