Bison Field Hockey Defeats Notre Dame (Md.), 3-0

Oct. 4 – BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College field hockey team notched their third win of the season by defeating Notre Dame (Md.), 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.

The first half saw both teams unable to muster any offense as the game would remain scoreless heading into intermission.

The Bison had opportunities in the first stanza, recording six penalty corners and five shots but were unable to capitalize.

The second half is where the Bison turned it on, as junior Taylor Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) received a great pass from sophomore Selena Vieira (San Jose, Calif./Leland ) for the game’s first goal, giving Bethany a 1-0 lead at the 49th minute.

Just four minutes later, the Bison would tack on another goal extending their advantage to 2-0. This time, freshman Erin Cunningham (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe) notched the goal, as Solomon registered an assist on the play.

Solomon then added her second goal of the game in the 66th minute to put away the visiting Gators, 3-0.

Offensively, Solomon and Cunningham did the damage. Solomon finished with a game-high two goals, while also notching an assist. Cunningham scored her first-career goal in 70 minutes of action.

Junior Courtney Snyder (Bristol, Pa./Bristol), making her first appearance at goalkeeper, recorded her first-career victory. In 70 minutes, Snyder logged two saves on five Notre Dame shots.

The Bison will look to continue the momentum on Sunday, Oct. 5 as they travel to Ohio Wesleyan. Game time is slated for 12:00 p.m.
