Field Hockey Loses At Goucher

Sept. 28- TOWSON, Md.- The Bethany College Field Hockey team fell, 5-0, to Goucher on Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.

Demie Huffman earned her third victory of the season for Goucher as recorded her first shutout of the season. 

Sophomore Jacqueline Harrison (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) got the start in net for the Bison and made 15 saves on the afternoon, which was her second most saves in a game this season.

Emily Gill put the Gophers on the board with her first goal of the season at the 5:16 mark of the opening half. She received a pass off a penalty corner and put a shot on net which deflected off a defender and into the net. Lizzie Barminski and Justine Ruhlin received assists on Gill’s goal.

Harrison kept the Gophers silent for the next three minutes, as she made three saves.

Ruhlin and Crain both added first half goals as Goucher took a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

Five minutes into the second half,  Lizzie Barminski netted her third goal of the season to give the Gophers a 4-0 lead.

At the 50:08 mark, Bethany received its first penalty corner of the game, which sophomore Courtney Gill (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional) fired a shot on net, but Taylor Striar made a great save to keep the Bison off the board.

Crain added her second goal of the afternoon at the 65:37 mark to give the Gophers a 5-0 lead.

Natalie Knauer took Bethany’s second penalty corner of the game and passed it to Solomon who put a great shot on net, forcing Taylor Striar to make a great save to preserve the shutout.

Harrison made two saves in the final five minutes, as Goucher would go on for the 5-0 victory.

Bethany returns to action tomorrow when it faces Notre Dame (Md.) at 1:00 p.m.
