Field Hockey Nets Two Goals But Falls At Transylvania

Oct. 15- LEXINGTON, Ky.- The Bethany College field hockey team recorded 17 shots but lost, 3-2, at Transylvania on Tuesday afternoon.

The 17 shots that Bethany recorded are it’s second-most shots in a single game this season.

Freshman Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) had five shots on the afternoon to lead the Bison.

With two goals scored in today’s game, Bethany has scored 10 goals on the season, surpassing the total of nine the team recorded last season.

Sophomore Jacqueline Harrison (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) recorded a game-high 11 saves for Bethany.

Sara Aschbacher earned her sixth win of the season for the Pioneers as she made three saves.

Kayla Thurlow and Shelby Perkins each scored a goal as the Pioneers led 2-0 at the halftime break.

Freshman Latisha Cuffee (Virginia Beach, Va./ Green Run) netted her first-career goal at 59 minute mark to cut the Pioneer lead to 2-1.

Five minutes later, Sydney Katz took a pass from Macaulay Schifferdec and Katz shot it into the goal to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead.

Bethany would not quit as it eagerly tried to get back into the game. The hard work paid off as sophomore Taylor Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) scored her fourth goal of the season in the 67th minute.  Solomon’s four goals this season ties her total from last year.

The comeback fell just a little bit short as Transylvania went on for the 3-2 victory.

Bethany returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 23 when it hosts Oberlin at 7:00 p.m.
