Oct. 7 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – Bethany College senior QB, Matt Grimard (Lowell Mass./Dracut) has been named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week announced the conference office on Monday.
Grimard led the Bison to a 24-19 victory over W&J last Saturday evening at Bison Stadium, snapping a 30-game winless streak against the Presidents. He posted 424 yards of total offense (335 passing, 89
rushing) and threw for one score in the win. With his 14-yard completion to sophomore Eric Blinn (Beaver, Pa./Western Beaver) in the third quarter, Grimard became the first player in Bison history to record 10,000 total career yards.
“The difference in last week’s game against all other games this season, is that we saw just how dangerous Matt can be as a dual-threat quarterback,” said head coach Bill Garvey. “People forget that as a freshman, Matt was our second leading rusher and was really good at making things happen with his feet.
“He really kept the defense off balance making plays both passing the ball and moving the ball on the ground, and that’s why we came away with the victory against W&J.”
The current Division III active career leader in total yards (10,038), Grimard leads all Division III counterparts in passing yards (1,682) and is third in total offense per game (370.8) in 2013.
“10,000 yards is just a testament to his full body of work over four seasons,” remarked Garvey. “We got him here and thought he was going to be a runner. However, he constantly developed his game, and has turned into a very good player who could be having his best year yet.”
Grimard and the Bison are off this week, but will be back in action on Saturday, October 19 when they travel to Waynesburg, Pa. to take on the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg University.
