Feb. 5 - BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany senior Petre Petkovski (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) has been voted to the ESPN the Magazine Second Team Academic All-District II Men’s Basketball team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution and be nominated by their sports information director. All Division II, III and NAIA institutions in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia make up District II.

This is Petkovski’s second year at Bethany after transferring from Division II Wheeling Jesuit. In his first year, he helped lead the Bison to their 12th PAC title and sixth NCAA Tournament bid. This season, the 6-7 forward is third on the team in scoring (12.2), second in rebounding (6.7) and second in three-pointers (31). Petkovski has totaled four double-doubles this year for BC (12-9, 6-3), including 21 points and 13 rebounds in a win at Waynesburg Jan. 28.

In the classroom, Petkovski sports a GPA above 3.7 as an international economics major. He is the Senior Fellow for Bethany’s Department of Economics and Business this year and serves as a tutor in economics. He also volunteers for the Youth Basketball Camp in the City of Wheeling.

“This is a great honor for Pete,” said Bethany head coach Mike Summey. “A lot of credit goes to his parents for how he was raised. Pete expects himself to get good grades and he takes everything in basketball and in the classroom very seriously. This award is a culmination of years of hard work as a student and as a basketball player.”
