Feb. 23 -BETHANY, W.Va. – Visiting Otterbein (Ohio) University scored six first-quarter goals and continued to pull away through the game to record a 24-1 victory over the Bethany College men’s lacrosse team Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.
The Cardinals won the opening faceoff and scored just seven seconds into the game. By halftime, the visitors lead had grown to 12-0 and they added five more goals in the third quarter.
The Bison’s goal came with less than six minutes left in the fourth period. Following a timeout, sophomore midfielder Trey Moore (right - Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) took advantage of space on the right wing and was able to fire a shot into the net for the team’s first goal of the season. It’s a good start to the year for Moore, who led Bethany with 12 goals last year.
Otterbein would score three more times to close out the win, which saw the Cardinals post a 56-10 advantage in shots. Leading their attack was Mike Dattolo with six goals and seven points for the match.
Leading the Bison in ground balls in the game was junior Dylan Radwanski (right - Toronto, Ohio) with four, while junior goalie CJ Studnicky (Severna Park, Md.) and freshmen Aaron Bynum (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) and Kyle Dashiell (Parsonsburg, Md./Wicomico) had three each. Studnicky had the start in goal and made nine saves on the day.
The Bison will be on the road for the first time in 2013 when they travel to Saint Vincent next Saturday. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
