Bison Fall To Hanover In Home Opener

Feb. 26 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany lacrosse program dropped its first home game of the season, a 20-2 decision to visiting Hanover College, on Wednesday afternoon.

Hanover jumped out of the gate early, getting three goals in the first period. They would then tack on eight scores in the second to take an 11-0 lead into the break.

Senior goalie C.J. Studnicky (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) played well in the first half, notching 13 saves over the first two periods.

In the third period, the Bison played closer. Travis Granich (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) scored the first goal of the second half when he took a pass from Grant Delaney (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and finished in front of the net. The goal marked the second of the year for Granich.

After Hanover responded with three goals, the Bison notched their second of the period when a misplayed ball by the Panthers went in the back of their own goal.

Hanover would then tack on six more goals in the fourth period to round out the scoring, handing Bethany its first home loss of the season.

For the Bison, Granich and Delaney led the way offensively, each notching a point in the contest. On the defensive side, Studnicky finished the game with a season-high 20 saves. Evan Bender (Wheeling, W. Va./Wheeling Park) played well, finishing the game with a team-high three caused turnovers. Matt Chicoine (New Cumberland, Pa./Mechanicsburg), Dominic Halstead (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) and Kyle Dashiell (Parsonsburg, Md./Wicomico) all finished with two on the day.

The Bison will be back in action on Saturday, March 1, when they travel to University Heights, Ohio, to take on John Carroll University. The contest with the Blue Streaks is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
