Bison Lacrosse Falls to 0-2 with Loss at Saint Vincent
March 2 - LATROBE, Pa. – Senior Kyle Arrington (Jackson Twp., Ohio/Jackson), playing in his first lacrosse game since his sophomore season, had a hand in every score with one goal and two assists, but the Bethany College men’s lacrosse team could not overcome a huge first quarter by Saint Vincent in a 29-3 Bearcat win Saturday.
Saint Vincent took control early with 10 goals in the opening quarter and tacked on five more in the second before the Bison got on the board. Arrington (right), who scored 16 goals and had 21 points in Bethany’s first varsity season in 2011 before choosing not to play last spring to focus on his final season of football, scored an unassisted goal with 4:19 to go in the second quarter. The Bearcats would score once more before the end of the quarter to take a 16-1 halftime lead.
The third quarter started with a goal by Saint Vincent before Bethany scored its second of the game. Sophomore Trey Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto), last year’s leading goal scorer, scored his second of the year off an assist from Arrington. The final goal of the third period was also assisted by Arrington, as he set up junior Brendan Wessells (Severna Park, Md.) for a score with 46 seconds to play in the quarter.
Saint Vincent completed the scoring with six goals in the final period. Junior C.J. Studnicky (Severna Park, Md.) had the start in goal for Bethany and made 21 saves in the first three quarters. Freshman Devyn Bellerive (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) made his collegiate debut and had four saves. Pacing Bethany in ground balls was freshman Aaron Bynum (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert), who scooped three in the loss.
Bethany will be back on the field next Saturday with a road game at Hanover, which is set to start at 1 p.m.
