Women’s Swimming And Diving Break Two Records On Friday; Men’s Swimming And Diving Gets First Win Of Season

OCT. 25- STEUBENVILLE, Ohio- The Bethany College women’s swimming and diving team set two school records as it defeated Alfred (174-17) and Franciscan (139-79) on Friday evening at Franciscan University.  

The Bethany men’s swimming and diving team recorded its first win of the season as it defeated Alfred (132-54).

Freshman Chrstine Pray (Canton, Ohio/Canton ) continued her great start to her collegiate career, as she set a new school-record in the 1,000 free (11:24.01), which eclipsed the previous record of (11:25.10), which was set in 1974 by Mary E. Scollins.

The 200 medley relay comprised of freshman Leah Wiedmeyer (Summit Point,W.Va./Washington), junior Marina Baker (Winchester, Va./Sherando) and sophomores Alexi Pyles (Los Angeles, Calif./GHCHS) and Taylor Jacobs (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) set a new school-record of 2:00.29, which broke the old record of 2:00.49, which was set last year by Pyles, Baker, Melissa Davis and Jacobs.

Pray also took first place in the 500 free (5:49.44) and swam the third leg in the 200 free relay that finished in first place (1:48.83) and was comprised of Pyles, Jacobs and Baker.

Baker continued her momentum she had last season, and has carried it into this year and it remained visible tonight. Baker took first place in the 50 free (25.73), 100 free (56.08) and the 100 back (1:13.45).

Pyles had an excellent meet for the Bison, as she took first in three individual events, the 200 IM (2:23.67), 100 butterfly (1:03.82) and the 100 back (1:06.43).

On the men’s side, the Bison had a very strong performance against Alfred and won 11 events on the evening.

Freshman Danny Faix (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) took first in both the distance events, the 500 free (5:40.05) and the 1,000 free (11:55.39).

Freshman Jake Collas (South Park, Pa./South Park ) was impressive for Bethany in his second collegiate meet, as he finished first in two individual events, the 200 IM (2:16.51) and the 100 breast (1:05.36).

Bethany swept both relays in the meet, the 200 medley relay (1:46.41) and the 200 free relay (1:35.77). The 200 medley relay was comprised of; freshman Tyler Alberti (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury), Collas, and freshmen Craig Starks (Milwaukee, Wisc./Rufus King International ) and Jeremy Starr (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding ). The 200 free relay was comprised of; Starks, Alberti, Starr and freshman Kelly Faralla (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville Broadview Heights ).

Bethany takes on Alfred in its home-opener tomorrow (Oct. 27) at 10:00 a.m.
