Jan. 18 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – After helping the Bethany men’s track & field team to a third-place finish at the Otterbein Invitational, Bison senior Umar Moore and junior Andre Butler have swept the awards for PAC Athletes of the Week. Butler earned his first Track Athlete of the Week award, while Moore was named the Field Athlete of the Week for the second time.
Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) was selected as the conference’s Track Athlete of the Week after notching a school record and qualifying for the Eastern College Athletic Championships in the 60-meter dash. The junior earned the Bethany record in the qualifying heat, posting a time of 7.07. The run broke the previous mark of 7.12, set by Moore (2015) and Shawn Burns (2014).
Along with his fourth place finish in the 60, as well as the high jump (6-0), Butler posted a second-place mark in the 200-meter dash, finishing just .01 seconds behind teammate Kyle Minger with a time of 22.82. With the finish, Butler currently ranks 22nd in all of Division III, just .02 seconds out of the top 20.
Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) has started his final season off on the right foot, winning the first two Athlete of the Week awards to begin the 2015-16 season. Moore captured his first win of the season, taking first in the triple jump with a distance of 45-4.50. The jump not only qualified him for the ECAC Championships, but also has him sitting 14th in the Nation.
Moore rounded out the day by capturing third in the long jump, posting a jump of 21-08. Overall, his performance marked his third, top-five finish of the season in just two meets.
Moore, Butler and the rest of the Bison will be back in action on Saturday, January 23, as they travel to Denison University to compete in the Denison Lid-Lifter Invitational. The meet is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
