Bethany Competes at Westminster Invitational

April 13 - NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Bethany College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Westminster Invitational Saturday afternoon, with the men’s team placing fifth out of 14 teams and the BC women taking ninth place.

7170Gregg13.jpg The lone event win for the Bison came in the men’s javelin, where junior Ben Gregg (right - Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) took first place with a throw of 53.86 meters. Taking third place showings were freshman Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) in the long jump with a mark of 6.55 meters and the 4x100 relay team of freshman Matt Brower (Washington, Pa.), Moore, sophomore (Derrick Tolliver (Belliare, Ohio) and sophomore Anthony Thompson (Colquitt, Ga./Miller County), which placed third with a time of 43.92 seconds.

Bethany’s men also had a handful of fourth place finishes, which included Moore in the 100 (11.56), sophomore Dillon Handy (Alliance, Ohio) in the 400 Hurdles (1:00.13) and senior Michael Newman (Tampa, Fla./T.R. Robinson) in the discus (40.25 meters).

For the BC women, the 4x100 relay had the top placement in the me2091Grinkley13.jpget. With a time of 50.98 seconds, freshman Heather Grinkley (right - Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton), freshman Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac), freshman Bri Steich (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and junior Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) took second place overall.

Two members of the relay also had other top finishes, as Prato was fourth in the 200 with a time of 27.03 seconds and Grinkley earned fifth place in the 100 in 13.63 seconds.

Bethany will be in action again on Wednesday when the Bison host the PAC Quad at Bison Stadium, with field events set to begin at 2 p.m.
