March 28 – BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – A handful of Bethany College field athletes traveled to Buckhannon, West Virginia to compete in the throws competitions at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. The Bison performed well, posted a handful of top-ten finishes on the day.
On the men’s side, Bobby Bush (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the way for the Bison, posting the team’s highest finish in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. His best finish came in the discus where he finished fifth, notching a throw of 34.83 meters (114’ 3”).
He also claimed a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw, finishing with a 31.12 (102’ 1”). Bush also captured a ninth-place finish out of 20 competitors in the shot put, posting a throw of 11.51 meters (37’ 9 ¼”).
Other top performances for the Bison included Khalid Conteh’s (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) sixth-place mark in the discus (112’ 3”) and seventh place finish in the javelin with a 36.07 (118’ 4”). Cody Niedziecki (Ohioville, Pa./Western Beaver) also performed well, posting an eighth-place mark in the hammer throw (88’ 3”).
On the women’s side, Jamie Friedman (Washington, Del./Brandywine) was the lone Bison to compete, posting an 18.29-meter throw (60’ 0”) in the javelin, which was good for 13th place.
The Bison will continue their weekend on Sunday, March 29 when they travel to New Wilmington, Pa. for a meet at Westminster College. The day is slated for a 2 p.m. start. Time.
