Bison Track Teams Continue Season at Allegheny

May 10 - MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Bethany College men’s and women’s track and field continued their seasons Friday night by competing at the highly competitive Allegheny (Pa.) College Gator Invitational.

7170Gregg13.jpg The men’s team had the top placements of the invitational for the Bison, beginning in the field events. Junior Ben Gregg (right - Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) grabbed third place in the javelin by throwing 183 feet, five inches. Freshman Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) placed in a pair of jumps, as he was fourth in the long jump (21-10.25) and earned fifth in the triple jump (43-5.75).

On the track, senior Raymear Pinchom (Willingboro, N.J.) just qualified for the finals in the 100 by taking eighth in the prelims with a time of 11.05. The BC senior would take sixth in the final heat by crossing with a time of 11.13. Pinchom also ran on the 4x100 relay with freshman Matt Brower (Washington, Pa.), Moore and sophomore Anthony Thompson (Colquitt, Ga./Miller County), which took fifth place.

The final race a Bison ran on Friday was the men’s 800 and junior Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) took sixth place out of 23 runners with a time of 1:54.11.

2635Goolsby13.jpg Bethany’s women sprinters represented the Green and White’s competitors at the meet. The 4x100 relay of freshman Heather Grinkley (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton), freshman Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac), freshman Kiera Goolsby (right - Washington, Pa.) and junior Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) placed fourth by finishing in 49.12 seconds.

Prato had the next best showing, as she finished one spot out of the finals in the 100. Her time of 12.86 seconds put her ninth in the prelims, just .05 away from qualifying for the final heat.

Bethany will be back on the track next week by competing at the 2013 ECAC Championships May 16-17 at Springfield (Mass.) College. The Bison will send a contingent of 14 athletes who have qualified for the meet.
