Jan. 29 – GENEVA, Ohio –The Bethany College indoor track & field teams competed at Baldwin Wallace on Friday evening. The 4X200-meter relay team of Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon), Byron Mayers (Brownsville, Pa./Brownsville), Kyler Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local), and Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) shattered the Bethany school mark, posting a final time of 1:30.97 in the meet.
The Bison set a new school record for the second consecutive meet as Moore, Mayers, Minger, and Butler teamed up to take down the previous 4X200 relay mark (1:35.02) held by Michael Adams, Matt Brower, Raymear Pinchom, and Shamir Tomlinson in 2013.
The 4X200 relay team earned second out of five teams in the race, finishing .04 seconds behind a team from Baldwin Wallace.
The team also qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships in Staten Island, N.Y. as they were well under the ECAC qualifying standard of 1:33.50.
Junior Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) ran to a first-place finish in the 5000m. Donnelly crossed the finish line with a final time of 16:17.75.
For the women, Leighanna Frantz (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) and Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) competed in the high jump. Frantz placed sixth as she cleared the 1.45m jump on her first attempt, while Rao also cleared the 1.45m jump as she placed ninth overall.
The Bison will return to action on Saturday, January 30 at the Spire Midwest Open.
