Whitney Martin Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honor

July 20 – NEW ORLEANS, La. – Bethany College women’s track and field freshman, Whitney Martin (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek), has been honored with an All-Academic award by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, recently announced the USTFCCCA.

Martin was one of five women in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference and one of just nine athletes overall in the conference to earn an All-Academic honor. She also was the only freshman on the list of either men or women in the PAC.

Athletically, Martin had a stellar first season with the Green & White, winning three individual championships, including two in the indoor season and one in the outdoor. At the indoor PAC Championships, the talented freshman walked away with the 60m title (7.89) as well as the championship in the 200-meter dash (26.13).

At the outdoor championships, Martin once again captured a title, winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.37. She also helped the Green & White to a relay championship, running the anchor leg on the 4x100 team that finished first with a time of 48.91.

Martins’ performance which qualified her for the All-Academic Team came in the following week at the 10th-annual Gator Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College. On that day, the 4x100 team earned an ECAC qualification, posting a time of 47.81, a mark which proved to be the 23rd-best time in the Nation by the end of the year.

Martin also excelled in the classroom, earning a cumulative GPA of 3.84 during her first year on campus. A pre-physical therapy major, Martin was also named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll.
