Oct. 11 – BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College volleyball team rolled to their 22nd win of the season Tuesday night as they dominated non-conference rival Pitt-Greensburg with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-11) win.
The Bison opened the first series with a 19-0 run fueled by senior Tiffany Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) who recorded eight service aces. Hoffman would ultimately earn a double-double as she totaled 11 aces and 10 digs in the match. Pitt-Greensburg slowly rallied back, but couldn’t quite handle Bethany’s serving as they suffered a 25-8 defeat.
The following two sets showcased the Green & White’s frontline, as they recorded a total of 43 kills with an astounding .427 hitting percentage for the match. Bethany’s unrelenting attack was led by senior Carrie Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) who pounded 15 kills in the match. Talkington is now just 10 kills away from becoming the fourth Bison player in history to reach the 1,000 career total mark. Bethany would finish the match by winning the second set 25-13 and 25-11 in the third.
The Bethany volleyball team must now channel this gathered momentum, as the only teams remaining on their 2011 regular season schedule are all Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) rivals. Bethany (9-1 PAC) will host rival Waynesburg, who is currently 2-8 in the PAC, Thursday, Oct. 13th at 7 p.m.
