Oct. 4 - LATROBE, Pa. – Playing their third match in 24 hours, the Bethany volleyball team was even with Saint Vincent after two sets, but the Bearcats took the last two for a 3-1 (25-16, 16-25, 25-17, 29-27) over the Bison Sunday.

The teams split the opening two sets, with SVC taking the first 25-16 and Bethany answering back with an identical score. Saint Vincent went in front by winning the third set and then outlasted BC in a grueling fourth set to clinch the win.

Freshman Sarah Slagle (North Canton, Ohio/Perry) notched a team-high 15 kills, as well as 18 digs. Fellow freshman Lauren Goodwill (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) was right behind Slagle in kills with 14, as freshman setter Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) passed off 44 assists.

Slagle was only third on the squad in digs for the day, as sophomore Tiffany Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) recorded 23 and sophomore Alyssa Schrecengost (Wexford, Pa./Vincentian) had 19.

Bethany’s demanding stretch of seven matches in seven days continues Wednesday with a home date against Thiel at 7 p.m. That will be followed on Thursday night with a trip to defending PAC champion Westminster.
