Oct. 9 - CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. –The Bethany College volleyball team made the long journey to Thomas More Saturday for a tri-match against the top two teams in the PAC and came up on the short end of 3-0 decisions against Thomas More and Westminster.
The opening match of the day saw the Bison (16-6, 5-4) take on the Saints (16-7, 9-0) and TMC, who would defeat Westminster in the final match of the day, claimed the win in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-22. Junior Jessica Cole (Connellsville, Pa.) and sophomore Taylor Cassidy (Barboursville, W.Va./Cabell Midland) both had eight kills to lead BC, while junior setter Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) recorded 23 assists.
On the defensive front, junior Tiffany Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) led the team with 13 digs and junior Carrie Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) totaled three blocks.
Bethany had to bounce right back, as they took the floor against Westminster for the first meeting of the year between the schools. The Titans (12-10, 7-2) would also take the victory in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-21. While Zavatchen was passing out 21 assists, Talkington put away a team-high eight kills, which was followed by Cassidy and Cole with seven apiece.
Hoffman (11 digs) and Talkington (four blocks) would record team-bests in their respective categories for the second straight match.
The Bison are back in action Tuesday night with a home match against PAC foe Waynesburg at 7 p.m., as BC tries to sweep the season series after defeating the Yellow Jackets 3-1 in their first match Sept. 18.
