Bethany Posts 3-0 Victory at Penn State-Altoona

Oct. 18 -ALTOONA, Pa. – The Bethany College volleyball team improved its record to 23-6 by coasting to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-11) triumph at Penn State-Altoona in a non-conference match Thursday night.

7341Cassidy12.jpg Nine different players recorded kills in the victory, led by senior Taylor Cassidy (Barboursville, W.Va./Cabell Midland) with a dozen. Cassidy (right) made it a double-double by also recording a team-best 12 digs. Other top hitters included senior Lauren Goodwill (Canton, Ohio/Jackson), who had nine kills and is now 44 away from reaching 1,000 for her career, and sophomore Breana Harris (Severn, Md./Old Mill), who notched eight kills.

Senior Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) set up the attack with 35 assists. The Bison totaled nine aces in the victory, led by senior Katie Kurtz (Charleroi, Pa.) with four and two each from Zavatchen and sophomore Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold). Defensively at the net, Harris and sophomore Megan Beebe (Irondale, Ohio/Indian Creek) had four blocks each and Goodwill registered three.

The Bison are on the floor again Saturday for a pair of PAC matches on the road. At 1 p.m., the Bison will play Saint Vincent in Latrobe, Pa. Following the match, the team will make the short trip west to Pittsburgh to take on Chatham in a 7 p.m. match.
